01
Overview
The player pilots a Yar in the Razak solar system, facing a Qotile sheltered behind a cell-based energy shield. Missiles or direct contact can clear shield cells, opening a path for the Zorlon Cannon to destroy the base. The game continues in escalating waves until all of the player's Yars are lost.
02
Why it matters
As one of Atari's best-selling original titles for the 2600, it helped define the single-screen shooter format. Its horizontal playfield and risk-reward shield mechanics set it apart from vertical shooters of the era.
03
The physical edition
A typical complete Atari 2600 copy includes a cartridge, a printed instruction booklet, and a box or clamshell sleeve. Regional editions and later pressings can vary in box art, packaging format, and included materials, so verify the exact edition before purchase.
04
Playing it today
On original hardware the game requires an Atari 2600 console with a joystick or paddle controller. It also appears in some later digital re-releases and emulation options.
