01

Overview

You steer the USS Enterprise through a sequence of space sectors, managing impulse and warp speed while keeping your heading on target. Phaser and torpedo fire must be timed to dodge Klingon ships and mine fields while preserving enough supplies to reach the next starbase. Docking at starbases repairs and re-arms the ship, with the campaign building toward a final confrontation.

02

Why it matters

The title brought a well-known science-fiction franchise to one of the earliest home console markets. Its first-person ship handling placed it in the same lineage as the arcade and computer Star Trek releases of the early 1980s.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete copy centers on the black cartridge and an instruction booklet, with packaging details varying by region and press run. Some listings may include a manual, flyer, or case insert, so the exact contents should be checked against the specific edition for sale.

04

Playing it today

The game runs on an original Atari 2600 or on widely used emulators, and its single-button control scheme fits a standard joystick. Because every direction of the stick performs a different function, a printed control reference is useful while learning the ship's handling.
