01
Overview
The game casts the player inside a cursed diary, using the 3DS's camera and AR booklet as the Camera Obscura to find, puzzle, and fight spirits. It is a Fatal Frame spin-off developed by Tecmo Koei Games, alternating between a real-world layer and the spirit world of an ancient shrine. The story follows a friendly amnesiac spirit named Maya while the player confronts the ghosts trapped in the Diary of Faces.
02
Why it matters
It is one of the few horror titles designed from the ground up around the 3DS's camera and augmented-reality hardware, making the console itself a core prop of the experience. As a Fatal Frame spin-off released across all regions in 2012, it marks a deliberate crossover between the series and Nintendo's handheld.
03
The physical edition
A complete copy typically includes the game card, the AR booklet required for parts of the gameplay, and the instruction manual. Regional editions vary in packaging, language, and included extras, so the exact edition and contents should be confirmed before purchase.
04
Playing it today
The game runs on original Nintendo 3DS hardware and works best in a well-lit space so the AR booklet registers reliably. It is a short, single-player experience whose camera-based puzzles depend on the 3DS's front-facing camera.
