Overview
Samurai Shodown V takes place two years before the first game in the series and centers on Yoshitora Tokugawa's struggle against his former mentor. It retains the series' blade-based combat while introducing a revised button layout and a roster that mixes returning warriors with new characters. Developed by Yuki Enterprise, the title marks the first main entry released after SNK's acquisition.
02
Why it matters
The game is one of the last titles produced for the Neo Geo and represents the series' first chapter after SNK's corporate transition. Its prequel storyline places it at the beginning of the Samurai Shodown timeline.
03
The physical edition
A typical complete copy includes the game cartridge, a printed manual, and the original Neo Geo case. Regional variations may differ in title, labeling, or included materials, so inspect the actual package before relying on a listing description.
04
Playing it today
The Neo Geo AES cartridge requires the original hardware or a compatible MVS/AES system to run. A digital ACA Neo Geo version is available on several modern platforms for those who prefer not to collect physical hardware.
