Overview

Rampage casts you as one of three oversized creatures — George the ape, Lizzie the lizard, or Ralph the wolf — each transformed by a different experimental accident. Players move through side-view cityscapes, punching buildings into rubble, eating passersby, and dodging military fire until every structure in the town is reduced to debris. The home cartridge brings that arcade loop to the 2600, supporting one or two players in a straightforward, fast-paced destruction cycle.

02

Why it matters

Rampage was one of the late-'80s arcade hits that defined a simple monster-wrecking loop still echoed in later games. Its 2600 cartridge is a concrete piece of that arcade-to-home-console wave on Atari hardware.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete US copy of the 2600 cartridge includes the original box and a printed manual, with the cartridge itself labeled in a style consistent with other late-1980s 2600 releases. Packaging and labeling can vary by region and pressing, so verify the exact edition before purchase.

04

Playing it today

The 2600 version runs on original hardware with a standard joystick; it is a single-screen action game that is easy to pick up and put down. Emulators and 2600 emulators for modern devices also provide a low-friction way to try the game.
