Overview

Puzzle Bobble, known internationally as Bust-A-Move, is a 1994 Taito arcade puzzle that spins off the Bubble Bobble franchise. Players fire bubbles at an angle to match groups of the same color and drop them before the ceiling descends to the bottom line. The Neo Geo MVS version shipped in Japan and North America in December 1994, with stereo sound and translated text distinguishing it from the earlier Japanese Taito B System arcade version.

02

Why it matters

It brought a recognizable Bubble Bobble cast into a genre that emphasized spatial planning over reflexes, helping establish the bubble-shooter puzzle formula. Its commercial performance as one of 1995's top-grossing arcade PCB titles in Japan confirmed the appeal of character-driven puzzle design.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete copy of the Neo Geo MVS cartridge edition includes the cartridge itself, a protective box or sleeve, and any included documentation or promotional insert. Contents vary by region and press, so verify the exact edition and package components before purchase.

04

Playing it today

The Neo Geo MVS arcade version requires a compatible Neo Geo MVS board or an AES-to-MVS adapter to run. Emulation is also an option, but a physical copy on original hardware preserves the intended arcade presentation.
