Overview

Developed by Copya System, it follows Popeye and his friends as they race to find hidden treasure. Players punch, jump, and collect spinach to grow stronger and defeat Bluto. The game also includes a two-player link-cable mode for head-to-head play.

02

Why it matters

Popeye 2 is a sequel to the Japan-only 1990 Game Boy title Popeye. It shows how licensed cartoon properties were adapted for the handheld's single-screen, monochrome format.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete copy includes the Game Boy cartridge, game box, and instruction manual. Regional releases used different box art and publisher markings, so edition details should be checked for each copy.

04

Playing it today

The game runs on original Game Boy hardware and many compatible handhelds. Its two-player mode requires a link cable and two working Game Boy units.
