Overview

Sir Charles Foxworth investigates a murder on a steamboat trip from St. Louis to New Orleans. He moves through the ship, questions passengers and crew, and looks for evidence before the killer strikes again. The game is known for its strict structure: wrong guesses, missed clues, or traps can end the case with no save feature to recover.

02

Why it matters

It is an early example of a detective-style adventure game on an 8-bit home console. Its Japanese release as Mississippi Satsujin Jiken made it a notable curiosity in Famicom history.

03

The physical edition

A complete copy typically includes the cartridge and its original packaging; the exact package contents and labels depend on the regional edition. Japanese and other regional releases may differ in title, artwork, and included materials.

04

Playing it today

On original hardware, expect a strict, single-player experience with no save feature, so sessions can end at any trap or wrong choice. Emulation is the practical option for most players, though the game's Japanese-language text may require translation or a guide.
