01
Overview
Retro Studios developed the game for Nintendo, shifting the series into a first-person perspective while retaining its exploration and ability-gated progression. Samus explores the derelict space station Tallon IV, uncovering lore through environmental details and a handheld log. A GameCube memory card is used for saved progress, allowing players to return to the slow-paced traversal over many sessions.
02
Why it matters
The game is often cited as one of the strongest examples of first-person design on the GameCube, showing how the format can support Metroid-style exploration. It helped define a direction for later first-person adventure titles on Nintendo platforms.
03
The physical edition
A typical complete copy includes the optical disc, game case, and instruction booklet, with contents varying by region and release. The physical package is separate from the game itself, so condition and included extras should be evaluated on the copy in hand.
04
Playing it today
The GameCube disc can be played on original hardware, which requires a working memory card for saves. Emulation on compatible devices is a practical alternative where original hardware is not available.
