01

Overview

Jaguar Doom adapts id Software's fast-paced shooter to the Jaguar cartridge with 24 playable areas and direct access to every weapon via the console's multi-button controller. The port omits much of the original soundtrack and uses a darker, CRY-based color presentation. It also supports two-player cooperative and deathmatch modes through the optional JagLink system.

02

Why it matters

As the first official console Doom, Jaguar Doom became the technical foundation for later ports on 3DO, PlayStation, GBA, and other platforms. Its source code was released in 2003, making it a useful reference for studying early console ports.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete US copy includes the Jaguar cartridge, outer box, instruction manual, and sometimes a controller overlay. Regional editions differ in packaging, so check the specific edition you are buying.

04

Playing it today

Jaguar Doom runs on original hardware or Jaguar emulators, with two-player modes requiring an additional Jaguar and JagLink cable. The cartridge's memory save can retain progress, volume, and control settings when powered off.
