01

Overview

Episode Two follows Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance as they cross the mountains surrounding City 17 to reach a resistance base. The game expands the series' first-person action with open outdoor environments, vehicles, and a longer journey than its predecessor. It is a single-player narrative game and the second entry in a planned episodic continuation of Half-Life 2.

02

Why it matters

It is a key link in the Half-Life 2 story, moving the series beyond City 17 and testing the Source engine's larger, more open levels on console. The PlayStation 3 release also reflects the 2000s practice of distributing Valve games through major retail collections, with The Orange Box listed in sources as the main retail package for the console version.

03

The physical edition

On PlayStation 3, a complete physical copy is commonly encountered as a disc-based retail edition, often as part of The Orange Box collection. Regional editions may differ in packaging, labels, and included documentation, so check the seller's description for the exact package.

04

Playing it today

The game remains playable on a standard PlayStation 3 console, though it is a single-player story experience with no multiplayer mode. Expect a 2007-era first-person shooter with straightforward controls and a focus on environmental storytelling.
