Overview

Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk is the sixth main entry in Codemasters' Dizzy adventure series, developed by Big Red Software and presented on the NES as part of the franchise's multiplatform 1991 run. Players begin in an underground prison, solve inventory-based puzzles, and travel through forest, castle, and sky areas while collecting stars and food to keep Dizzy going. The story ends when Dizzy reaches Daisy and lifts Rockwart the Troll's sleeping spell, completing the adventure in a shorter runtime than some earlier Dizzy games.

02

Why it matters

The title carries the series' familiar blend of platforming, item use, and light puzzle-solving into a tighter package than many of its contemporaries. It also illustrates how Codemasters expanded the Dizzy brand across home computers and console hardware in the early 1990s, with the NES release appearing under a related Dizzy label rather than a standalone multiplatform package.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete NES copy of this era would include the cartridge, outer box, and instruction manual, though packaging variations can differ by region and distribution arrangement. Because this game is connected to special NES hardware releases, collectors should confirm whether the cartridge and accessories match the edition being sold before approval.

04

Playing it today

The game runs on a standard NES setup if the cartridge is a conventional NES release, but some Dizzy NES editions are tied to the Aladdin Deck Enhancer accessory. Test the copy on hardware or an emulator that supports the exact cartridge type before assuming it will load normally.
