Overview

Championship Tennis is a one- to two-player tennis game for the Intellivision that lets players serve, volley, and play singles or doubles against the computer. It was completed by Nice Ideas, the company formed from the former Mattel Electronics French office, and released in Europe in 1985 by Dextell Ltd. The cartridge later appeared in the United States through INTV Corp., which introduced it in its spring 1986 catalog.

02

Why it matters

Championship Tennis is a late Intellivision release that shows the system’s continued third-party support after Mattel Electronics closed. Its development history connects the French Nice Ideas studio, the Dextell European label, and the later INTV Corporation catalog.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete copy of this cartridge game includes the original box, instruction manual, player overlays, and the Intellivision cartridge. Packaging, branding, and included materials can differ between regional editions, so collectors should identify which version they are examining before comparing contents.

04

Playing it today

Championship Tennis runs on the original Intellivision or on Intellivision Flashback and compatible emulation setups. It supports single-player and two-player matches, with options to play against the computer or watch the computer play both sides.
