Overview

Atari Karts puts you behind one of several karts in single- or two-player cup races set over four difficulty levels. You collect speed boosts and steering aids, avoid hazards, and unlock additional drivers by beating boss racers in the Miracle Race. The game leans on the Jaguar's Mode 7-style scrolling to give tracks raised and lowered terrain.

02

Why it matters

It is one of the Jaguar's early kart racing titles and a point of comparison with Super Mario Kart during the mid-1990s. Its use of Mode 7 terrain and its roster of unlockable drivers make it a small but notable part of the Jaguar's library.

03

The physical edition

A typical complete copy includes the cartridge, outer box, and any included instruction sheet or manual; exact package contents can vary by region. Check the specific edition before assuming every regional release contains identical materials.

04

Playing it today

The cartridge plays on a standard Atari Jaguar or in an emulator, and the controls are straightforward for both one- and two-player cup racing. Difficulty ramps up quickly, and finishing near the back can cost a life, so patience matters in the later cups.
