Overview
You lead a small expedition across hostile terrain to recover the Crown of Kings hidden inside Cloudy Mountain. The game mixes a strategy map for movement and resource gathering with individually explored caves whose difficulty is signaled by color. It was one of the first Advanced Dungeons & Dragons video games licensed from TSR and was later retitled to distinguish it from the sequel Treasure of Tarmin.
02
Why it matters
Cloudy Mountain represents an early attempt to translate tabletop Dungeons & Dragons into cartridge-based exploration and dungeon crawling. Its title and packaging changed over time, making it a useful study in how licensed game identities evolved during the 1980s.
03
The physical edition
A typical North American complete copy includes the cartridge, instruction booklet, and printed box art, though exact box and insert details can vary by production run. Copies may appear with the original all-caps ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS cartridge title or with the later Cloudy Mountain subtitle.
04
Playing it today
The game runs on original Intellivision hardware or modern emulators using an accurate cartridge image. Controls rely on the Intellivision keypad and hand-controller disc, so both are needed for full play.
